Ok, so I was great at making up instrumental hip hop beats in my head. We’ve established that.

But the question is, did that make me a hip hop beat maker. The answer, sadly, was no. In order for me to grow and develop the raw talent I did have, I needed beat making software. You can probably relate to what I’m saying.

Here’s what happens when you don’t go straight to beat making software. You waste time and money on producers that may not have your best interest at heart.

Now, just like with the college thing; I’m not telling you to forgo working with a producer if you have one that is good in all areas of the business. Remember, this is about MY Journey; your road may be totally different to mine!

What I found initially was a guy who was a great rap beat maker. We worked together briefly, because I found him to be not so great on the professional side of things. So I figured the way to go would be to look into beat maker software for myself.

There is a lot to consider when you are joining the ranks of beat makers in the music biz, especially if you possess great raw talent but no real training.

This is when a good beat maker download may come into play for you, as it did for me. I didn’t quite know what to do with myself when I was looking for beat making software just a few years ago.

I tried what seems like hundreds of different programs; but really it was just a handful. It just felt like a lot because I spent hours upon hours in my room staring at the computer.

See, while I had the beats in my head, actually making them into music was a whole different story. While I was headed down the right path in finding some beat making software that I could use; I had some learning to do too.

Just because you get software doesn’t mean you have what you need, you know what I mean? There are certain things that go into making beats that one has to learn; and the best way to get to your end result fast is to find a beat making software that can also teach you while you make music!

Don’t get me wrong; there is nothing like hearing your finished masterpiece after you have put together a variation of sounds and beats.

The frustration is finding the right program for your own style, preferences and budget. See, while options are great and we all love them; when it comes to beat making software, too much too soon can be just too much. Because of my personal situation, price was a huge factor in getting started.

The other thing that was important to me was how easy a program would be for me to use. In talking to other beat makers, I quickly realized that even expensive software can be a total waste. Sometimes, the guys who program beat making software are the only ones who can use it.

Now what kind of sense does that make?

Because making beats can be somewhat difficult, even with beat making software; I found that user guides didn’t do a whole lot to help me out.

I wanted to get right down to it; get into making some funky beats! So after months of wasting my time reading user guides, I decided to start searching for a program that offered some video tutorials.
